There is something deeply satisfying about a well-built exhaust note. But a proper custom exhaust system is about far more than sound. It is about freeing the engine to breathe, reducing back pressure, and extracting performance that the factory silencers were designed to suppress.
Factory exhausts are built to a price point and a noise limit. They use restrictive baffles, narrow pipe diameters, and heavy catalytic converters to meet emissions and sound regulations. A custom system from Wallace Performance replaces these compromises with free-flowing mandrel-bent pipework, high-flow catalysts or de-cat options where legal, and carefully tuned resonators that shape the acoustic signature rather than simply suppressing it.
The power gains are real and measurable. On a turbocharged car, reducing back pressure before the turbine helps spool the turbo faster and hold boost more consistently. On naturally aspirated engines, scavenging improvements and reduced restriction help the engine rev more freely. Gains of 10 to 25 brake horsepower are typical, depending on the starting point and how restrictive the factory system was.
Sound is equally important to most customers, and we treat it as a design challenge rather than an afterthought. Through careful selection of resonator types, pipe diameter, and exit configuration, we can deliver anything from a subtle, refined growl under load to a full motorsport bark. Every build is discussed in detail with the owner before we cut a single pipe.
Materials matter. We primarily work with T304 stainless steel for durability and corrosion resistance, with full TIG welding throughout. For weight-conscious builds, titanium is available on request. Every system is built to fit perfectly, clear all heat-sensitive components, and comply with MOT requirements where applicable.
If you are considering an exhaust upgrade, bring the car in for a consultation. We will assess the current system, discuss your goals, and show you examples of our previous work so you know exactly what to expect.
